Understanding Classroom Management
Classroom management is defined as the strategies and techniques that teachers use to maintain a positive classroom environment. These strategies should create a classroom environment that encourages students to succeed and learn. Students should feel safe and comfortable to achieve in the classroom environment. Effective teachers know how to be classroom managers and deal with challenging student behaviors. However, many teachers struggle with effective classroom management. This website was created to address classroom management issues that may arise in the classroom. New teachers and experienced teachers can use it as a resource to learn about specific aspects of classroom management.
This website includes techniques to use with students with ADHD, strategies for handling ten challenging student behaviors and the beliefs of two different educational theorists. Also on this website are explanations of Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, Life Space Crisis Intervention, Manifestation Determination, Positive Behavior Supports, Response to Intervention, Seclusion and Restraint. My name is Julia Harrison and I am currently a junior at Hope College. I am majoring in Special Education-Learning Disabilities. I am from Glenview, Illinois, which is a northern suburb of Chicago. While at Hope College, I have had various classroom experiences in both general education and special education settings.
